I took a cruise with two friends from Los Angeles, California to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; Mazatlan, Mexico; Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and then back to Los Angeles. My friends Gary and Phill have taken this cruise many times and they love it. I took this cruise because I had never been on an ocean cruise. I had only been on a Nile River Cruise and I wanted to see what it would be like for a single person to be on a cruise ship.
As you know, ships have gotten larger and larger and you don’t even feel like your on the water until you look out the window. I felt like I was in a Las Vegas hotel that went from port to port. You find different restaurants from Italian to French cuisine and even an Irish Pub. The main dining room is on three levels which has a different menu every night. They have a central cafeteria as well which is open forever. If they really wanted to make more money, they could weigh you on the way in and weigh you on the way out and charge you by the amount you gained.
There was entertainment offered two or three times a night and it was all first rate. The entertainment ranged from Las Vegas comedians to musical reviews and to top that off an ice skating show, “Ice Under the Big Top”. The ice skating show had different themes including a circus on ice which was so good I saw it twice. They also had interaction game shows for the guests that either made you feel smarter or very stupid. One of the last game shows they had was a X-rated adult only scavenger hunt. It was in the ice skating rink where the floors came out and covered the ice. They made groups and invited two people from each group to play the game. The selected people had to find certain objects like false teeth, a picture of themselves, a bra, high heels, and other miscellaneous items. At the end the man had to put all of the objects on and do a fashion show. It’s amazing what people will do to win a tee-shirt! I’m sure all these people are on YouTube somewhere and the best part is they were sober!
There is a lot of live music and entertainers in different lounges throughout the boat. I was never bored and wherever I sat I made a new friendship with a different person. I was surrounded by swimming pools and saunas and there was time to do some sunbathing. Of course there was a casino on the ship where you will win all of your money back…haha
There is also a lot of shopping onboard and at the ports but I would advise people to not go overboard. I was constantly bombarded by commercials while watching TV in my room for shopping at different ports. There are places where you can save money but do your research ahead of time. If you want to buy a Cartier watch or other name brand watches and jewerly you probably can get up to 25% off or more but know how to bargain. Know what the value is and offer them a certain amount. If they say no, walk away and see what happens. Don’t worry they will have the same store at every port! Just remember you can probably buy it in America cheaper. If an art gallery uses the phrase, “It’s a good investment.” always ask why is it a good investment, if they will buy it back or sell it for you in the future. If they agree ask for it in writing otherwise you better love it.
Oh and by the way, if you want to meet friends just give them jewelry! I bought 150 jelly rings that light up and blink and handed them out on the first dress up night. I made a lot of friends right away!
