If you’re in Boise, ID and craving a really good sandwich, visit The Blue Moose Cafe.  This was the greatest restaurant I ate at with the tastiest meal I had in the 5 days I was there. Hands down it is the best sandwich place west of the Mississippi. Next time, I’ll be going for dinner and the entertainment.  Marcy, the owner, is always there with a smile- in a way she makes the food taste better. Hats off to The Blue Moose Cafe!

The Gold Mine Thrift Store is a great place to shop when in Ketchum, Idaho and is even better because money from sales goes to The Community Library . It’s always difficult to find nice men’s clothes in consignment shops but this one is full of them!  I spent an hour and a half going through and trying on jackets, coats, vests and, of course I found some of the best pieces were either too big or too small, but it is definitely one of those places you should stop by every other day.  I found a wonderful Kashmir coat for $75 and some very well made and stylish vests as well as a sterling silver picture frame.  I was very happy! This store is a must visit.

Ketchum Property

I have been invited to visit my friends Pat and Janis in Ketchum, Idaho for many years and finally I took them up on the offer.  I knew it would be spectacular and it was.  The house is stunning especially with the view of the Sawtooth Mountains. Partially, because I have always loved log cabins. I kept looking up at the gigantic logs above my head and tried to understand how they could have possibly constructed this huge house.  The 2 houses that they have built are surrounded by government property, meaning no one can built on it, and they are about an hour away from Ketchum.

I was there for 5 days and everyday was awesome.  They drove me to Redfish Lake, Stanley, and we had lunch in Sun Valley.  Below are some photographs of the house and surroundings as well as a group of new friends I made at my going away party. And by the way, the two houses are for sale.

I was in Idaho during the off season of September.  You could not tell that by this restaurant. It was crowded and people were waiting in line.  My friends, Pat, Janis & Jack, took me there for my last meal in Idaho. The atmosphere was fun and people seemed to know one another. The food was very good.  I had the Ketchum Grilled Shrimp Cakes with Red Pepper Remoulade for an excellent appetizer.

Another person I was with had the Handmade Lemon Noodles with Rock Shrimp lemon, black pepper and light cream which I tried and it was really tasty.  For my entree I had the Braised Lava Lake Lamb Shank with Grilled Tomato Polenta.

Finally, for dessert, I had the Idaho Apple Dumpling and someone at the table had the Warm Chocolate Hazelnut Truffle Cake, both were worth the wait.

I have not eaten at this lodge because it was only open for dinner, but it has an excellent reputation.  Some of the things that stand out on the menu are the Ruby Red Trout and Poached Salmon.

When they say “Location, Location, Location” this place knows because at Bridge St. Grill it is all about the view.  It’s a pleasure to sit out on the deck at the Bridge St. Grill while eating the Bridge St. Ribs or The Idaho Ruby Red Trout or an order of their Hot Tails Shrimp which is 10 Tiger Shrimp sauteed in Franks Hot Sauce and served with garlic bread.

The dining area is right on The Salmon River with a gorgeous mountain view.  It’s so close to the river that if you brought a fishing pole you could catch your own meal!  The fishes are right below you!

The Bridge St. Grill is just a few minutes away from downtown Stanley.  The owner Brett Woolley is a great story teller and a really fun person to talk to.

The Sawtooth Restaurant with My Friend Pat

The Sawtooth Hotel is located in Stanley, Idaho. Stanley looks like an old western mining town. It feels like at any minute the sheriff will come walking down the street or someone will be thrown out of a saloon or maybe even Gabby Hayes, if you know who that is, will come riding down the street.  At the Sawtooth Hotel Restaurant the food is so good, I could eat there three meals a day.  I would like to spend several days at the Sawtooth Hotel just so I could visit the restaurant.  Stanley is just over an hour away from Ketchum.

My favorite things on the menu are the Sweet Potato Fries which are served in a big bowl with ketchup and chili aioli, the Pork Schnitzel was the best I’ve ever had  (they serve a generous portion) and the Lamb Stew that is called Lamb Tagine which is gilled chicken, sauteed veggies, goat cheese and fresh herbs.  The lamb is served in a large bowl that is big enough for three people.  It was so good I could have eaten all of it, myself. People living in this area are accustomed to driving hours for a good meal, and when it’s as good as the Sawtooth Restaurant it’s worth the trip.

The location of the Sawtooth Hotel is at the base of the Sawtooth Mountains.  Meals are served with a view of the mountains and at sunset it can take your breath away.
