Blue Hill has received many glorious reviews. I don’t know why. I invited my two friends Stephanie & Armand to dinner. We each started with a glass of wine. Stephanie had soup ($15), Armand had the cod head ($16)and I do mean ‘cod head’, which he pulled apart with his chopped sticks, and I had roasted fennel ($16). For our entrees Stephanie had the turkey ($36). The turkey looked like it was pressed turkey, beautifully arranged as if it were novel cuisine. I would have rather had turkey in a New Jersey diner with mashed potatoes and cranberries for $10. I had the tuna ($34). It was beautifully prepared and probably the best tuna I have ever had. Armand chose to have the vegetarian dish. When I was outside waiting for my friends to show up, I looked at the menu. There was only one dish I didn’t understand what it was. That dish was the cauliflower steak. A cauliflower steak turns out to be a slice of cauliflower about 1/2 inch thick, sauteed or grilled, for ($32 freakin dollars)! I said to the waitress that it probably costs only 50 cents to make it and she said, “Sir, you’re wrong.” To me, this entree was an insult to good value in a restaurant. We had two desserts. The total bill with tax came to $234.08 before tip. I tipped $48 dollars which brought it up to $282.08! Yes, President Obama has eaten there, but has he gone back? I don’t plan to go back.
